Sister City Council

Establishment

The first Sister City Program, Sister Cities International, was created in 1956 at the request of President Eisenhower, giving national focus to affiliations between cities in the United States and in other countries. The objectives of the Sister City Council are to enhance international communication, acquaint citizens of Tacoma with cultural and political diversity of the world, and to encourage international trade and tourism development.  

 

Membership

Appointing authority for the Sister City Council membership was established by Resolution 37938 and the terms of membership are ongoing. The membership includes a diverse representation of Tacoma-Pierce County Citizens.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Council oversees the City of Tacoma's Sister City Program. For more information about the Sister City Council and Sister City Program, please visit the Sister City Program web page. 

 

Staff Support

Staffing support to the Sister City Council is provided by the Community and Economic Development.

Additional Information

The Council meets the fourth Wednesday of each month.
