Overview
The Human Services Commission (HSC) reviews applications and makes funding recommendations of human services programs funded through the federal Community Development Fund Block Grant program, City of Tacoma General Fund, and City of Tacoma Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders sales tax. The Committee conducts public hearings, accepts and reviews proposals, selects projects and makes recommendations to the City Council. The Committee also serves as a resource to the City Council and City Staff for the development and implementation of Neighborhood and Community Services Strategic Plans.
Membership
The Human Services Commission consists of 15 members who are nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by a majority City Council vote. The membership term is three years, except for the youth position, which is one year.
Membership must reflect the diversity of our community as to race and culture, gender, age, socioeconomics, geography, and interest in Commission membership.
Apply to be a Commissioner
New Commissioner recruitment generally occurs February through April of each year; however, interested residents are welcome to apply at any time during the year to be considered for the next round of vacancies. Apply online.
