Deputy Mayor Kristina Walker - At-Large Position 8
Deputy Mayor Kristina Walker was elected to the Tacoma City Council in 2019. From 2011 to 2020, she served as Executive Director of Downtown On the Go, a nonprofit organization that promotes and advocates for walking, biking, and transit in downtown Tacoma. A proud graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and American Leadership Forum Tacoma/Pierce County, Deputy Mayor Walker loves working for the Tacoma community.
Deputy Mayor Walker chairs the City Council’s Infrastructure, Planning, and Sustainability (IPS) Committee and serves on the Government Performance and Finance Committee (GPFC). She also currently serves as the Chair of Pierce Transit Commission and is a member of the Sound Transit Board of Directors. Other Council board and committee assignments include City Manager Performance Review Committee, ForeverGreen Trails, Joint Municipal Action Committee, Parks Policy Group, Puget Sound Regional Council/Executive Board, Puget Sound Regional Council/Transportation Policy Board, Regional Access Mobility Partnership, and the Tideflats Subarea Planning Steering Committee. She is also the alternate for the Police Disability and Pension Fund Board, Puget Sound Clean Air Agency Board/Board of Directors, and South Sound Housing Affordability Partners.
Deputy Mayor Walker is passionate about creating more opportunities for all residents of Tacoma by closing equity gaps and addressing disparities that exist for people of color and vulnerable communities, supporting and empowering Tacoma's youth, expanding economic opportunity by attracting new businesses that will create good-paying local jobs, improving multimodal transportation, and protecting access to green-spaces.
Deputy Mayor Walker lives in District 3 with her husband, who is a teacher, and their two kids. She is an avid bike-commuter.
