Tacoma-Pierce County Chaplaincy

Providing Emotional and Spiritual Support to People in Crisis and Those Who Assist Them

The Chaplains of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chaplaincy assist victims of crime and their family members by providing help and support for the healing of the mind, emotions, and spirit.  Each year, Chaplains of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chaplaincy respond to more than 1,000 crisis incidents including homicides, suicides, threatened suicides, fatality accidents, domestic violence situations, and the providing of compassionate, in-person death notifications.  In addition to our crisis services for victims, we provide invaluable support for emergency responders and their families with counseling, debriefings, and most importantly, friendship.

Ours is a free service and we are available 24-hours a day, 365 days-a-year.  We work in cooperation with emergency services personnel and provide our services to anyone who needs them.  Recognized as one of the largest emergency services chaplaincy ministries in the United States, we have over 40 volunteer and staff Chaplains and two full-time administrative staff.  Our success has spread throughout Pierce County as we now provide chaplaincy services to over 30 police, fire and emergency service agencies.

Chaplaincy in Tacoma began in 1971 and because of the positive reception received from the police and citizens became a non-profit ministry in the early 1980s to support full-time chaplains.  Through the compassionate work of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chaplaincy, we have become a standard in care for the citizens and emergency responders in our County.
