Port of Tacoma Road Update - October 7, 2015

Port of Tacoma Update - October 7, 2015
This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:

Weather Expected to Impact Work Schedule

To date, the project has benefitted from the good weather. The increased rainfall expected this fall and winter may impact the construction schedule. All expected completion dates noted below are weather dependent.

Connecting final rail crossing to roadway

Contractor crews are completing paving work to connect the new rail crossings installed north of Marshall Avenue with the concrete roadway. The work is expected to be finished next week.

Road Construction Continues North of Washington United Terminals

This week, the contractor plans to begin paving the east side of Port of Tacoma Road between Washington United Terminals and Concrete Technology Corporation (CTC). The work is expected to be completed next week.

Work also continues to construct new driveways at CTC over the next two weeks, with weekend work planned for October 17 and October 24.

Expect a traffic revision to this section of the road on October19:

  • Traffic is expected to move to the east side of the road, allowing the contractor to begin removing the existing pavement on the west side. This grinding and paving work is expected to continue for several weeks.
  • Maxwell Way will be closed at Port of Tacoma Road for about a week beginning Tuesday, October 20, to accommodate paving the west lanes. A detour route will be marked around the construction.

Stay Safe Through Construction Zone

Safety is our top priority. The contractor, City, Tacoma Rail and Port continue to work with emergency responders to make sure they have access through the construction zone.

Remember, the speed limit through the construction zone is 30 mph. Obey all traffic laws, watch for traffic revisions and use extra caution when driving through the port industrial area.
