Project Background
In March 2007, the City was awarded a $2,259,865 grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to replace deteriorated asphalt pavement, repair and replace curb and gutter, and install new ADA ramps and sidewalks on Pacific Avenue from South 17th Street to South 25th Street and on South 25th Street from Pacific Avenue to South C Street. This project had multiple funding sources with a total project budget of $2,751,561.
In July 2008, a contract was awarded to Johansen Excavating, Inc. in the amount of $1,922,739. At the time this project was nearing completion additional grant and local funds became available. In March 2011, the City was authorized to use the additional funds to extend the improvements on South 25th Street from South C Street to Jefferson Avenue. This additional work was scheduled to start after the completion of the Sound Transit D-M Commuter Rail project.
Design for the additional scope of work was completed in 2013, and the project advertised on March 12, 2013.
Project Description
This project includes additional cement concrete sidewalk and driveways, curb and gutter, ADA ramps, asphalt pavement grind and overlay, and miscellaneous utility work. This project will also construct a portion of the Prairie Line Trail along South 25th Street.
Budget
Roadway repair costs will be shared between Public Works and Environmental Services. Environmental Services will fund sewer utility costs.

Schedule
This project is scheduled to begin in July 2013, with completion in September 2013.
Project Update - September 4, 2013
Week of September 2, 2013
All work on the north side of South 25th is complete, with the exception of areas of concrete sidewalk and ramps which were removed for defective work. Traffic will be rechanneled and work commence on the south side of South 25th. The work on the south side contains;
- the installation of two catch basin’s
- removal and replacement of concrete sidewalk, and curb and gutters
- installation of new ADA ramps
- grind and overlay
Week of August 19, 2013
We will be paving the north side of South 25th Street. We will be swapping traffic control to the south side of South 25th Street. Start the demolition of the sidewalks, curbs and gutter, and roadway. Additional storm repair will be completed by the end of this week, detour routes will be in place to direct traffic during this work.
