Limited Access to the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center Starting March 25

In accordance with Governor Inslee's emergency “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order and to help minimize the spread of COVID-19, the City of Tacoma’s Solid Waste Management is limiting access to the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center (3510 S. Mullen St.) starting Wednesday, March 25, until further notice.

Effective this date, no self-haul residential garbage, or Call-2-Haul loads will be accepted at this facility. The Recycle Center, EnviroHouse, and Solid Waste front office lobby will be closed until further notice.

Effective Monday, April 20, through Sunday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center will start the first preliminary phase to resuming services, and open to self-haul yard waste from City of Tacoma solid waste residential customers only. Click here to learn more.

Solid Waste Management is reducing hours and services at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility starting Tuesday, April 7, until further notice. Effective this date, the facility will be closed Tuesdays through Thursdays and will be open Fridays through Mondays from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Click here to learn more.

Essential commercial solid waste loads, as defined by Governor Inslee's order, will still be accepted at the center from 8 AM to 6 PM, seven days a week. These loads must be in excess of 1,000 lbs.

If solid waste customers have items that cannot be placed in their collection containers, they can call 253-502-2100 in advance to request service changes or additional pick-ups.  Also, curbside Call-2-Haul services are still available, but there could be delays in collection service due to demand.

Essential City services, such as Solid Waste collection services, continue to remain operational.

Solid Waste Management is experiencing COVID-19 impacts, which may result in collection schedule changes for both residential and commercial customers. Click here to learn more.

As Solid Waste Management continues to monitor this ever-changing situation, residents will be notified of schedule changes on the Recycle Coach app, and information will be posted on cityoftacoma.org/solidwaste or customers can call (253) 502-2100 for more information.
