Downtown to Defiance Call for Volunteers

Saturday, September 7, 2019

Event Time: 9 AM – 2 PM

First Shift: 8:15 AM -11:30 AM

Second Shift: 11:15 AM - 2:30 PM

Downtown to Defiance is in its 7th year and is Tacoma’s only Open Streets event. The purpose of this event is to celebrate our shared street space, enjoy Tacoma’s beautiful waterfront, embrace active transportation, and build community. Downtown to Defiance is inspired by a vision of a trail connecting downtown Tacoma to Point Defiance Park.

This event would not be possible without amazing volunteers.

There are two shifts available and you are welcome to sign up for both!  Water and refreshments will be provided to volunteers.  Information packets will be provided prior to the event.  A great way to secure school community service hours!!!

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

Information Rockstar

Information Rockstars will be stationed in one of five waterfront and downtown stops (Fireman's Park, Schuster Parkway Midpoint, Dickman Mill Park, Jack Tanner Park, and Dunes Peninsula), and are important points of contact for participants. As a Registration Rockstar, you will stand next to Downtown to Defiance signage and will stamp passports, hand out swag, and answer questions as needed.

Course Champion

Course Champions are very important to this event! Course Champions will be stationed at critical points along the route and will make sure participants stay on course and automobiles stay off the closed roadways.

Anything Allstars

Anything Allstars are fantastic event support as they will help to fill in the gaps throughout the day. We love how flexible these Allstars are, and are glad to have your ready support during, before and after the event. You might help set up signage and waste stations in the parks, you might bring lost and found items to their owners, or you might fill one of the above volunteer roles.
