Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards to Host State of the City Address on March 6

Free Community Event – ‘Tacoma: Our Destiny in Motion’ – to Take Place at University of Puget Sound

Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards will host the 2019 State of the City Address on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 6:30 PM in the University of Puget Sound Schneebeck Concert Hall. During the free community event, Mayor Woodards will speak on the theme, “Tacoma: Our Destiny in Motion”.

“Tacoma is an incredibly dynamic city and we each play a role in its success,” said Mayor Woodards. “This event is an opportunity for our community to reflect on where we’ve been and share how we can move Tacoma forward in a manner reflective of our community’s vision.”

Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce Board Chair-Elect Clemencia Castro-Woolery will serve as the event’s emcee. The event will open with dancers from the Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center (TUPAC) and feature the work of 2017-2019 Tacoma Poet Laureate Kellie Richardson. Ceremonial drumming by the Puyallup Tribe of Indians and a performance by the Tacoma Refugee Choir will also take place during the event.

Ample free parking is available in the University of Puget Sound’s Thompson Hall parking lot, located on the east side of N. 14th Street and Union Avenue, or along the east side of Union Avenue.

Event doors open at 5:30 PM. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register by Friday, February 22, 2019 at 3 PM at cityoftacoma.org/stateofthecity. Due to space limitations, seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
