SPECIAL MESSAGE

The Coronavirus pandemic has led to concern by many in the community. Governor Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order that all people should remain home brings with it added questions about enforcement. The Tacoma Police Department will seek voluntary compliance with the order with the aim of keeping our residents safe and healthy. We believe our community understands the severity of the situation and we will not actively seek out individuals failing to comply with the order, solely to charge them with a crime. We recognize people need to get groceries, go to the doctor and perform other essential activities. When our officers encounter someone failing to comply with the order, we will remind them, as appropriate, of the restrictions. We have no desire to make arrests for violations related to COVID-19. Rumors of people needing "passes" or businesses needing "licenses" specific to the COVID-19 order are simply not true. This is uncharted territory for all of us, as law enforcement and residents alike, and we are all doing our best to navigate the new restrictions. We remain committed to serving and protecting the citizens of Tacoma during this challenging time. We ask the public not to call 911 to report violations of the governor’s order, social distancing violations or people being outside. We must reserve 911 for people who need immediate emergency assistance. To learn how to best report crime and other issues, visit cityoftacoma.org/ReportCrime.

Police Department Creates Music Video About Social Distancing

The Tacoma Police Department urges citizens to “Step Off Six” in a music video we created about social distancing during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The video helps to educate the public on the importance of remaining six feet apart while attending to essential activities in public. The video, which highlights officers of the department and features original music by a department employee, is an effort to help citizens abide by Governor Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” emergency order.
