Capital Projects

The Environmental Services Department manages the design and construction of Surface Water, Solid Waste, and Wastewater capital improvement projects throughout Tacoma.  These projects replace or expand the City’s sewers, streets, pump stations, and treatment facilities.  The projects listed are currently in design or under construction.

Central Wastewater Treatment Plant Electrical Distribution System Replacement

This project will replace the aging 15-kilovolt medium voltage electrical distribution system at Tacoma’s Central Wastewater Treatment Plant and provide redundant and reliable power throughout the facility.  Project improvements include a new 3,400 square foot switchgear building, more than 3,000 lineal feet of new concrete reinforced electrical duct bank, and more than 20 miles of electrical cables.
