A Statement From Council Member Sarah Rumbaugh on Passage of Sexual Assault Prevention Budget Proviso

“As the Chair of the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center, I am thrilled to see the Washington State Legislature allocate $150,000 from its general fund for a grant to a nonprofit organization so it can continue to provide sexual assault prevention education programming to K-12 schools in Tacoma and expand services to the Franklin Pierce School District. I am grateful to the 29th Legislative District representatives, Pierce County Council Member Jani Hitchen, Rebuilding Hope! Sexual Assault Center for Pierce County, and all the advocates who have supported our work together as a community to change the course for domestic violence and sexual assault county-wide. This state-funded support builds on Tacoma’s efforts to fund prevention education training and victim advocacy programs in Tacoma Public Schools and community-based locations. Domestic violence doesn’t end at the City’s border, and expanding these services will change lives for our entire region.”
