Government Relations Executive Profile

Randall Lewis has been the Government Relations Officer for the City of Tacoma since 1991. He leads the City's state, regional, and federal lobbying efforts and represents the City before a number of boards and commissions. This work involves developing new legislation that advances the City’s interests, and working to assure the City receives its share of funding for transportation projects, social services and other important City services. He also hosts an interview program featuring local, state and federal elected officials on TV Tacoma, the City’s municipal cable television station. 

Lewis began his career as a broadcast journalist, working in radio stations in a number of cities in Oregon and Washington, where he frequently covered the activities of local and state government. He made the change from journalism to government relations in 1980, working for both the Clover Park School District in Lakewood and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce for a number of years before coming to work for the City.

A native of Tacoma, Lewis graduated from Mount Tahoma High School. He obtained a bachelors’ degree in communications and attended graduate school at Washington State University. He is a member of the Washington Environmental Council. And he serves on the City Club of Tacoma's board of directors.
