Media and Communications Executive Profile

Interim Media and Communications Director-Tanisha Jumper

As Interim Media and Communications Director, Tanisha Jumper leads the City of Tacoma's marketing, public relations, media relations and internal communications efforts by driving the delivery of accurate and timely information about the City of Tacoma through a variety of multimedia outlets. She also develops and executes strategies to promote government transparency and encourage civic engagement.  

 

Born in Seattle and raised in Pierce County, Tanisha returned to Tacoma from Dayton, Ohio, in March of 2015. Most recently she worked for the City of Tacoma in the City Manager’s office on strategic planning and the implementation of Tacoma 2025 - the City's ten-year strategic plan, internal and external facilitation and training, and development and enhancement of community partnerships in an effort to advance the goals of Tacoma 2025.

 

In Dayton, Tanisha served as the Senior Vice President, Community Impact for United Way of the Greater Dayton Area for seven years.  In that role, Tanisha led United Way’s efforts to provide quality health and human service programs, develop collaborations, strategies, and initiatives that served Montgomery, Greene and Preble Counties.  As the leader of United Way’s Community Impact department, Tanisha provided direct management for the organization’s grant-awarding process, which provided millions of dollars in annual funding for United Way’s network of more than 60 partner agencies. Additionally, she supervised United Way’s community engagement activities and special programs, including HelpLink 2-1-1, United Way’s Volunteer Connection, and Public Policy efforts.

Tanisha has a wealth of experience in health and human service management and community engagement. She has served as a case manager and supervisor at Miami Valley Child Development Centers, a Vice President at Unified Health Solutions, and Housing Commissioner for Greater Dayton Premier Management, the local housing authority. 

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science from Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, OH
