Easily Dispose of Unwanted Items

Call2Haul Setout

Solid Waste Management makes properly disposing of unwanted items easier by offering Call-2-Haul services to our customers. Residential customers can use Call-2-Haul included in their existing service, and commercial customers can use Call-2-Haul for a fee of $75. Call-2-Haul provides curbside pickup and saves you a trip to the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center.

Residential

Residents Eligible for Two Call-2-Hauls Per Year

Residential customers are eligible to use our Call-2-Haul program at no additional cost, twice per year to dispose of unusable household items that are not part of customer's regular curbside pick up. It’s easy!

How to Use Call-2-Haul

  • Check whether your item(s) are accepted. Click here to view a visual guide for commonly accepted items. If you have questions about specific items, call (253) 573-2468.
  • You can have up to three large items (large rolls of carpet up to six feet in length and one foot diameter, furniture, power yard equipment, barbecues, large household appliances, and recreation and exercise equipment)
  • And/or up to 15 boxes or bags of small items (small household appliances, lawn chairs, broken toys, strollers and clothing)
  • No household garbage or recyclables are accepted.

Call (253) 573-2468 to schedule a residential pick up or make an appointment to drop off your items at the Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center.

 

Commercial

Businesses and multifamily dwellings in the city of Tacoma can take advantage of Commercial Call-2-Haul for a fee. $75 for a single and $150 for a double. How to use Commercial Call-2-Haul
  1. Check whether your item(s) are accepted.
    • You can have up to three large items (large rolls of carpet up to six feet in length and one foot in diameter, furniture, power yard equipment, barbecues, large household appliances and/or recreation and exercise equipment.
    • And/or Up to 15 boxes or bags of small items (small household appliances, lawn chairs, broken toys, strollers and/or clothing)
  2. Call the Call-2Haul appointment line at (253) 573-2468 to request a site visit by a Solid Waste Management Route Supervisor to identify a location for pickup at your site and a tentative pickup date.
    • When you call you will need to have your account number for solid waste or electric, the address for the pickup and a contact name and number.
  3. The Call-2-Haul fee will be billed to the business’ solid waste account, in cases where a solid waste account is not available; the fee can be billed to the electric account of the person requesting the service.

Accepted Call-2-Haul Items

Up to Three Large Items

  • Appliances (refrigerators, stoves, water heaters, washer/dryers, etc.)
  • Barbecues (remove all propane tanks, charcoal, and ashes)
  • Carpet (up to six large rolls per haul, six feet in length and one foot in diameter is considered as one large item)
  • Some electronics (no televisions or monitors)
  • Furniture (sofas, chairs, tables, shelving, mattresses, patio sets, etc.)
  • Power yard equipment* (hedge trimmers, chainsaws, weed whackers, etc.)
  • Lawn mowers* (no riding mowers)
  • Large power equipment* (table saws, chop saws, generators, etc.)
  • Recreation/exercise equipment (bicycles, treadmills, basketball hoops, etc.)
  • Kitchen and bath items (sinks, toilets, vanities, bathtubs, cabinets, and counter tops less than six feet in length)

*All batteries, gasoline, oils, and other fluids must be removed before Call-2-Haul pick up.

 

Up to 15 Boxes and Bags of Smaller or Medium-Sized Household Items
Each box or bag must be light enough for one person to lift.
  • No household garbage or recyclables
  • Clothing and linens
  • Baby items and toys
  • Small appliances (vacuum cleaners, blenders, microwaves, etc.)
  • Household tools
  • Housewares
  • Small electronics (radios, printers, game consoles, etc.)

Non-Accepted Call-2-Haul Items

  • Household garbage, recycling, food, or liquids
  • Hazardous materials
  • Televisions, computers, or monitors
  • Building materials (sheet rock, insulation, fencing, roofing, cement blocks, decking, lumber, etc.)
  • Cars, trailers, or other vehicles 
  • Tires or vehicle parts (seats, fenders, doors, canopies, engines, transmissions, etc.)
  • Hot tubs
  • Yard waste or wooden pallets
