Fire Chief's Executive Profile

Fire Chief Toryono Green is responsible for the management, direction, and control of the Tacoma Fire Department and its 419 budgeted positions. His responsibilities include strategic planning and goal setting, organizing and overseeing all departmental operations and activities, preparing and managing the Tacoma Fire Department’s budget, formulating and executing departmental policies and procedures, and identifying and implementing departmental best practices and efficiencies.

Before being appointed to Fire Chief in 2019, Green worked successfully under the leadership of four fire chiefs, including his predecessor Chief Jim Duggan. Chief Green served as the deputy chief of administration for the department for seven years and previously served as its Assistant Chief of Emergency Medical Services and Medical Services Officer.

Green is a Tacoma native and has been with the Tacoma Fire Department for more than 26 years.
