Paving Thursday and Friday (June 6 - 7) - Expect Delays
The first lift of asphalt pavement will be placed along Stadium Way from I-705 to Division Avenue this Thursday, June 6, and Friday, June 7. Local access to Stadium Way will be maintained at all times, however, residents should expect delays entering and leaving parking garages during paving operations.
The Stadium Way project remains on schedule to finish in September.
Schuster Parkway Southbound Closure
May 28 - July 19
9 AM - 9 PM
Monday - Friday
Both southbound lanes of Schuster Parkway are closed, 9 AM to 9 PM, Mondays through Fridays through July 19, to allow for improvements to an existing retaining wall. One southbound lane will be open after 9 PM
Detour routes and signs are in place directing traffic from southbound Schuster Parkway to South 4th Street, Dock St., and to downtown or I-705 via the South 15th Street ramp. The Schuster Parkway sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians for two to three weeks during this closure. Signs will be in place notifying pedestrians when the sidewalk is closed. A map of the detours is presented here: Phase 1A.
The contractor will not be working July 4 to July 7. The sidewalk and one southbound lane will remain open at all times during this period.
Next Stadium Way Open House
The next Stadium Way Open House will be Wednesday, June 26th, 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM, in the City Council Chambers, 1st floor, Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market Street. A brief project summary will be provided, followed by a Q&A session.
Stadium Way Arterial Improvement Project Phase II
Stadium Way is closed to vehicles and pedestrians from Interstate-705 to Division Avenue. Detour routes between the Stadium business area and downtown Tacoma are shown on the Stadium Way Phase 2 Detour Map and described below.
Although drivers may still use Saint Helens Avenue to leave the Stadium Business District, a newly signed Alternate Route to I-705 via Tacoma Avenue South and South 13th Street is now available.
South 9th Street has been removed from original detour route. If Saint Helens Avenue is used, drivers are encouraged to continue south on Market St. until reaching South 13th Street. Here the route turns left and merges with the new Alternate Route to I-705.
Although the Stadium Way ramp from I-705 remains open and continues to connect to Commerce Street, another option to enter downtown is the City Center Exit. Following this exit, turn left on South 15th Street, and turn right onto Market Street, where the route connects to the original detour using Saint. Helens Avenue to reach the Stadium Business District. Follow the green arrows on the detour plan.
Please note, although detours are in place, all businesses remain open.
The detour routes will remain in place through September 2013. Local and emergency access to the Stadium Way businesses and residents is currently via South 4th Street. The point of local access may change over the life of the project; those affected by the changes will be notified in advance.
Scope of Work
The Stadium Way Arterial project includes removal of the existing pavement, upgrades to street lighting, new sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and other utilities, new pavement, retaining walls, handrails and sidewalks with improvements to Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility, a traffic signal at North 4th Street, bike lanes, landscaping and other Complete Streets concepts.
