Partners across Tacoma-Pierce County are celebrating Bike Month with events and activities - we hope you'll join the fun!


Saturday, April 22
South Sound Sustainability Expo (City of Tacoma)

UW Tacoma and Tollefson Plaza

For 15 years, the South Sound Sustainability Expo has been the region’s largest community celebration of all things sustainability. This free, family-friendly event features activities, presentations, performances, and art exhibits.

T-Town: Play. Explore. Learn. - City Services Expo (City of Tacoma)

The 'T-Town: Play. Explore. Learn. - City Services Expo is a free, family-friendly community event at the Tacoma Dome. The event is a unique, hands-on experience for the community to engage with City Departments as well as learn about career and trades opportunities.

Tacoma Washington Bicycle Club Rides & Events (TWBC)
The Tacoma Washington Bicycle Club offers regular recreational bike rides throughout the year. Join the group for a ride this spring on local trails or further afield! Some events require membership (starting at $30/year). Check out the full calendar of events at twbc.org.

City of Tacoma Bike Month Proclamation (City of Tacoma)

Join Mayor Woodards and Tacoma City Council for their annual proclamation celebrating Bike Month! The proclamation recognizes the benefits of bicycling for our community, reiterates the City of Tacoma's support for increasing bicycling safety and achieving Vision Zero, and recognizes the City's goal to build a community where all young people can safely ride!

National Bike & Roll to School Day (City of Tacoma)

Location: Your child’s school!

Schools across the country will celebrate biking, walking, and actively rolling to school on May 3, 2023, and throughout the month! Bike, walk, scoot, or skate to school in May from home or by parking a few blocks away from school. Plan a celebration with your school using posters, promotions, and incentives. Annual Bike Swap (Pierce Trips)

University of Puget Sound (Thompson Hall parking lot on North Union Avenue and North 14th Street, Tacoma)

The Bike Swap is back! The Bike Swap is a FREE family-friendly community event put on by Pierce Trips in partnership with the City of Tacoma and Downtown on The Go, where anyone can sell or buy used bicycles and bicycle parts.

Water Flume Line Trail Party (City of Tacoma)
Location: South Park – along the Water Flume Line Trail, near the playground (4851 S. Tacoma Way Tacoma, WA 98409)
Time: 11 AM to 3 PM
Join the City of Tacoma’s active transportation team for a family-friendly trail event to celebrate the joys of bicycling! There will be bicycle accessory giveaways, snacks, fun activities for kids, and lots of resources and information. Razor Micromobility will offer demo rides along the trails and distribute free helmets. Come party with us!

VeloFemmes do CycloFemme (VeloFemmes)

Every year in May, women around the globe band together on bikes to celebrate collective momentum. Join us May 14, 2023 as we ride worldwide. This will be a slow, mostly flat bike ride along the Tacoma waterfront (approx. 6 miles total). Helmets required for your safety and our insurance. Inspire one more woman to ride a bike, and we can change the world. #cyclofemme

Join Downtown On the Go from May 15 to May 28 for a BINGO across Tacoma! Complete activities, see some sights and practice riding around town to complete a bingo by May 28! Bike BINGO cards will be posted on DOTG's website and Facebook pages on May 15, or you can email us for one!

Bike to Work Day (Downtown On the Go)

May is Bike Month all over the world - but the best celebration is right here in Tacoma! On May 19th, we will welcome everyone who rides a bike in Tacoma to join Downtown On the Go at Cremello Cafe (764 Broadway in Downtown Tacoma) between 7am and 9am to enjoy free coffee and treats, and get excited about biking. Whether you bike to work, school, the grocery store, restaurant or bar, wherever - we want to champion you during this bikiest of months.

Pipeline Trail Party (City of Tacoma)

Location: Eastside Community Center – along the Pipeline Trail, near the climbing boulder (1721 E 56th St, Tacoma, WA 98404)
Time: 11 AM to 3 PM
Join the City of Tacoma’s active transportation team for a family-friendly trail event to celebrate the joys of bicycling! There will be bicycle accessory giveaways including lights and bells, snacks, fun activities for kids, and lots of resources and information. Learn about existing and planned bicycle projects, share your thoughts about Home in Tacoma, and get a free balloon from Tacoma's very own bicycling balloon artist. Razor Micromobility will offer demo rides along the trails and distribute free helmets. Come party with us!

South Tacoma Family Ride (Kidical Mass Tacoma)

Location: Meet at South Park near the Asia Pacific Cultural Center - S. 50th Street and Puget Sound Ave, Tacoma 98409
Time: 10:30am-12pm

Kidical Mass bike rides encourage families to ride bikes safely in the street by following the Rules of the Road on quiet routes. We ride at a kid's pace and stay together in a group, stopping to regather when needed. This ride rolls-out at 10:30am from South Park, pedaling on streets and paved trails in a group to Manitou Park to play, then returning to South Park (about 4 miles roundtrip). Expect the event to last about 1-1.5 hours. This free event is open to riders of all ages, however no training wheels or balance bikes on this route. Helmets required for all riders for your safety and our insurance. See website for more details. Sponsored by Second Cycle.

Celebrate Bike Month! Join Velofemmes and The Grand for a special showing of the movie Motherload. A demo of cargo bikes before the movie and a discussion following the movie. We will post the tickets link on Facebook when it becomes available. Motherload is "an award-winning documentary that uses the cargo bike as the vehicle for exploring parenthood in this digital age of climate change."

Bike to the Market (Downtown On the Go)

Celebrate Bike Month by cycling to the Downtown Farmers Market on May 25th (10am-2pm, on Broadway between S. 9th and St. 11th)! Visit the Downtown On the Go booth to get more information about bike resources as well as details for the events we have planned for the summer, including Bike Bingo and our Walk Tacoma series. The Market will be generously offering $2 market tokens to those that travel by bike to the market on May 12th, so don’t forget to stop by the Market info booth to get yours!

Join us on Memorial Day morning for our Skip Your Spin Class (SYSC) ride in Point Defiance Park. Rides start at 10AM. Meet us at the first kiosk right at the park entrance. We will be riding on Mondays throughout the summer. Helmets required for your safety and our insurance.
