Finance Executive Profile

As director for the City of Tacoma's Finance Department, Andy Cherullo serves as the chief financial officer for the City Manager and the City Council.  He is responsible for overseeing the City’s financial affairs, including accounting, debt and investment management, procurement and purchasing, budget development, and financial reporting.

Cherullo joined the City of Tacoma in February of 2013.   Prior to joining the City, he most recently served as the chief financial officer for the Washington State Health Care Authority where he oversaw a $14 billion biennial budget that supported the state’s Medicaid program and the program for state employee and retiree health benefits.  Prior to that, he served as the chief financial officer for the Massachusetts School Building Authority where he helped reform a broken public K-12 school construction program and set the program on a path of financial sustainability.

Cherullo started his career in public finance at the Massachusetts House Ways and Means Committee, where he started as a budget analyst, and within four years became the budget director overseeing the development, negotiation and implementation of the state’s $22 billion annual budget.
