Fire Protection License

All persons conducting business in the City of Tacoma are required to have an Annual City of Tacoma Business License. Additionally, any business conducting work related to installing, maintaining, cleaning, or performing testing of fire suppression systems and appliances, or fire alarm devices and equipment are required to obtain a State of Washington General or Specialty Contractor license and the City of Tacoma regulatory Fire Protection License, 6B.90. This is including but not limited to the following:

  • Wet and dry sprinkler systems 
  • Hood and duct cleaning & suppression systems 
  • Hood and duct suppression systems
  • Foam systems 
  • Clean agents
  • Standpipe 
  • Underground fire main service 
  • Spray booth suppression systems 
  • Fire extinguisher service
  • Fire Alarm Systems 

As part of the licensing process, all contractors are required to provide information related to their scope of work as indicated on the Fire Protection Contractor Information Form.  Contractors performing confidence testing are also required to follow the operational procedures noted in Confidence Testing.
