📣You’re invited to join a virtual informational meeting on August 7, 2025, at 6 PM to learn more about the proposed updates to the Critical Areas section of the Tacoma Municipal Code.
❓What’s a critical area, you might ask? It’s a wetland, fish and wildlife conservation area, area ...with frequent flooding, geological hazard, or aquifer recharge. This meeting will help prepare you to make public comment at the Planning Commission Public Hearing on August 20. Public comment is also accepted by email and mail. 🎉 Big improvements are on the way for South #Tacoma! Current work on South Sheridan Avenue from South 64th St. to South 72nd St. will make it safer and easier for residents to connect to Wapato Park, nearby neighborhoods, and key ...arterials! 🎉
The South Sheridan Avenue – Phase 1 project will:
🚶 Add a shared-use path near Wapato Park
🚸 Build new sidewalks, curbs, and gutters on the east side of S. Sheridan Ave.
💧 Upgrade water, stormwater, power & gas utilities
🛣️ Narrow lanes for traffic calming and safety
🚲 Create a safer route for people walking, biking, and rolling

This work is 100% funded by Tacoma Streets Initiative I ($3.89M), Washington State Transportation Improvement Board ($3.56M), and City of Tacoma Real Estate Excise Tax ($400K). Project completion is expected in Summer 2026. Check out completed, active, and planned projects at TacomaStreetsInitiative.org.

🛣️ Tacoma roads are about to get a fresh new look! Our Public Works Engineering Division will begin work to refresh lane striping on key roads and intersections across #Tacoma this week. Road closures are not expected, and work is expected to take place at night through September 2025.

The Planning Commission is taking public comment on proposed changes to the historic preservation section of the Tacoma Municipal Code at a Public Hearing on August 6, 2025.
