City of Tacoma Facilities Temporarily Closing to the Public


The City of Tacoma is working closely with local, state, and national health officials to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Beginning at 7:30 AM on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, City facilities including the administrative offices at the Tacoma Municipal Building complex (747 Market St. and 733 Market St.) will be closed to the public until further notice. See below for a list of resources available via phone, email and online.

Tacoma Municipal Court

Through April 24, 2020, all jury trials at the Tacoma Municipal Court will be suspended and rescheduled to a later date. As of March 25, 2020, the front counter is temporarily closed to the public and phone hours are from 8:30 AM to noon, Monday - Friday, at (253) 591-5357. They can also be reached by fax at (253) 591-5031 or by email at municipalcourt@cityoftacoma.org.

Tacoma Public Utilities

Tacoma Public Utilities (3628 S. 35th St.) will be closing their lobby to the public starting Wednesday, March 18, 2020, until further notice.

Tacoma Public Libraries


Tacoma Public Libraries are currently closed to the public until further notice.

Essential Services, Including Emergency Services and Solid Waste Collection Services


Essential City services, including emergency services and Solid Waste collection services, will remain operational. 


In accordance with Governor Inslee's emergency “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order and to help minimize the spread of COVID-19, Solid Waste Management is limiting access to the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center (3510 S. Mullen St.) starting Wednesday, March 25, until further notice. Click here to learn more.


TAGRO Facility

Starting Thursday, March 26, the TAGRO facility located at the Central Treatment Plant (2301 Cleveland Way, Gate 6) will be closed to residential customers until further notice. During this time, the TAGRO free pile will also be closed to the public. Click here to learn more.

Parking Services


The City’s Parking Services is temporarily changing the on-street parking system by suspending pay station operations in downtown Tacoma. Starting the week of March 16, on-street parking will not require the purchase of a pay receipt. This temporary suspension will take place until further notice. During this time, parking enforcement actions will be limited to life safety violations throughout the city.


Facility Closures at City Operated Parks

The City’s Public Works Department is closing gathering spaces, structures and parking lots at six City operated parks starting Thursday, March 26, until further notice. Natural areas and park open space areas will remain open to the public. Click here to learn more.
