The City of Tacoma is Taking the Precaution of Closing Its Senior Centers

The City of Tacoma continues to make community health and safety a top priority. While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at either the Beacon (415 S. 13th St.) or Lighthouse (5016 A St.) Activity Centers, due to the increased health risk from COVID-19 to people over the age of 60, the City has determined that it would be in the best interest of senior participants to close the centers beginning tomorrow, March 11, 2020 at 8 a.m.

The City is coordinating with program participants to identify support they may need during this closure.

The City will reevaluate the closure by March 31, 2020 to determine if the centers can reopen in coordination with the social distancing and other recommendations from Tacoma Pierce County Health Department.

The Young Adult Overnight Shelter will continue to operate nightly at Beacon Activity Center.

General Healthcare guidance:

If you are sick with cough, fever or difficulty breathing call their healthcare provider.

Healthcare facilities are requesting that you call ahead, schedule an appointment and notify your doctor’s office before entering the clinic.
