City Council Priority: Health

Your ZIP code determines your health more than your genetic code, and it shouldn’t be that way. Although we all want our families to be healthy and live in a healthy place, Tacoma’s communities of color have not shared the same opportunities for health as their white neighbors. We see the impacts of those inequitable opportunities in many forms, from lack of access to healthy food that often result in higher rates of diabetes and other health conditions to inequitable work and housing conditions that increase rates of COVID-19 infection.

There are many actions we can take to improve social, economic, and environmental conditions that often determine the health of Black and Brown Tacoma residents. We must be anti-racist and address specific racial health inequities.

More information about how this priority will help transform Tacoma will be added soon. Please visit this web page again soon.
