Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards Appointed to U.S. Conference of Mayors Leadership Roles
--Woodards’ National Leadership Expands as She Accepts Appointment to the U.S. Conference of Mayors Advisory Board and is Nominated to Serve as Vice Chair of the Women Mayors Leadership Alliance--
TACOMA, Wash. – At the U.S. Conference of Mayors Summer Meeting, Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards accepted appointments to two national leadership roles: membership on the U.S. Conference of Mayors Advisory Board and vice chair of the Women Mayors Leadership Alliance.
“I am honored to take on the responsibilities of leadership in these two important roles within the U.S. Conference of Mayors at this time when cities are at the cutting edge of innovation and leadership on many issues of critical importance to our nation,” said Mayor Woodards. “I am looking forward to the insights I will gain working with the U.S. Conference of Mayors Advisory Board and the Women Mayors Leadership Alliance, as we continue to forward bipartisan collaboration in the areas of infrastructure, innovation and inclusion.”
“Mayor Woodards has been a consistent and enthusiastic contributor to the work of the U.S. Conference of Mayors,” said Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett, president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. “We are so pleased to have her advancing within the organization and look forward to her energetic leadership in these new roles.”
Earlier this year, Mayor Woodards was appointed co-chair of the National League of Cities’ Council on Youth, Education, and Families. The council fosters peer-learning and networking opportunities for elected municipal leaders; stimulates effective leadership on behalf of children, youth and families; and elevates the voices of city and youth leaders in broader discussions of the needs of youth, children and families.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors works to strengthen federal-city relationships; ensure that federal policies meet urban needs; provide mayors with leadership and management tools; and create a forum in which mayors can share ideas, information, and best practices. It is the official non-partisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are 1,408 such cities in the country today. Each city is represented in the conference by its chief elected official, the mayor. Mayors contribute to the development of national urban policy by serving on one or more of the conference’s standing committees. Details are available at usmayors.org.
