Tacoma Community Gathers for Evening Vigil to Mourn Orlando Shooting Victims

A candlelight vigil for the victims of the Orlando, Fla. mass shooting that left at least 50 dead and at least 50 others wounded will take place this evening from 8 - 9 p.m. at Tollefson Plaza (1548 Pacific Ave. in Tacoma).

"We are shocked and saddened by this senseless act of violence that occurred in the city of Orlando," said Mayor Marilyn Strickland. "This brutal attack on the LGBTQ community is an attack on all of us and is the antithesis of who we are as a nation. We send our prayers and sympathy to the victims and their families, as well as the LGBTQ community and the city of Orlando. I ask that we all show compassion and unity, and stand firm against hate and intolerance."

The City of Tacoma will fly its Pride flag at half-mast tomorrow morning in a show of support and solidarity with the LGBTQ community and the city of Orlando.
