A Joint Statement From Mayor Victoria Woodards and Deputy Mayor Catherine Ushka Condemning Act of Violence That Took Place on January 26, 2022

One source of Tacoma’s strength lies in the civic engagement of people across our community. As elected leaders, we cannot do our job without hearing from you. As part of this, we value the right to hold demonstrations and we support those that protest peacefully on those issues which are important to them. At the same time, we condemn any behavior which prevents the ability for individuals to exercise these rights safely and securely. We are horrified that a member of our community was hurt while exercising their rights, and we are committed to ensuring those responsible are held accountable. This type of behavior is never acceptable in our city. We extend our heartfelt support for the community member who was struck and wish her a speedy recovery.
