Crowd Energy Selected as Semifinalist in
Kauffman Foundation’s ‘One in a Million’ Competition

Tacoma, Wash. -- Crowd Energy, which develops clean energy technology, has been selected as a semifinalist in the “One in a Million” competition by 1 Million Cups, a national program from the Kauffman Foundation that educates, engages and connect entrepreneurs in 66 cities. The competition provides them with a platform for showcasing their innovative business concept, which involves an energy-producing ocean turbine.  The turbine harnesses clean renewable energy, and the movement of ocean water creates the potential for limitless energy, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear energy.  Crowd Energy is one of only 15 innovative companies in the country to be selected for the “One in a Million” competition.

“Participating in 1 Million Cups Tacoma showed us that there are more options than Seattle when it comes to high-tech entrepreneurship in the Puget Sound Region,” Crowd Energy General Manager Brian Allen said.  “We’re thrilled that the 1 Million Cups program in Tacoma enabled us to participate in the national semifinals in Kansas City.  There are a lot of potential partner companies for our supply chain in the Tacoma area, so the city is a great fit for us.”

“We are pleased that 1 Million Cups Tacoma, which has been in existence since May 2014, could provide a venue for a small clean energy company to receive national exposure,” said Mayor Marilyn Strickland. “We hope that Crowd Energy is one of many companies that take advantage of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tacoma."
