Lane and Pedestrian Access Closures on Schuster Parkway through Oct. 27

The City of Tacoma will be closing the sidewalk on southbound Schuster Parkway from North 30th to South 4th streets to pedestrian and bicycle traffic on Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25th. Currently, southbound Schuster Parkway has been reduced to one lane of vehicular traffic (north of the grain terminals) going on now through Tuesday, Oct. 27th.

The closure to pedestrians and bicyclists is necessary to perform emergency erosion repairs on the Schuster Slope below Stadium Bowl which was caused by the recent storm event on Oct. 10.  Vehicles are being reduced to one lane in the southbound direction due to this work and there will be no area for pedestrians and bicyclists to safely pass through the construction area.  In addition, temporary delay of vehicles may be anticipated and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

The Schuster Parkway Bridge in the northbound direction remains closed under a separate project for bridge repairs and is unaffected by this emergency work.

For additional information, please contact Project Engineer Kristy Beardemphl in the City’s Environmental Services Department at kbeardemphl@cityoftacoma.org or (253) 502-2272.
