Construction Schedule for October 14 to 23
This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:
Weather Expected to Impact Work Schedule
The increased rainfall expected this fall and winter may impact the project’s construction schedule. All expected completion dates noted below are weather dependent.
Completing Work on Final Rail Crossing
Contractor crews expect to complete the paving work to connect the new rail crossings installed north of Marshall Avenue with the concrete roadway. Watch for a traffic revision October 15 as crews prepare to connect the center lane to the rail crossing.
Road Construction Continues North of WUT, Maxwell Way Closure Planned
The contractor expects to finish paving the east side of Port of Tacoma Road between Washington United Terminals and Concrete Technology Corporation (CTC) this week. Work also continues to construct new driveways at CTC.
Traffic on this section of road is expected to move to the east side October 19 to allow the contractor to begin removing the existing pavement on the west side. This grinding and paving work is expected to continue for several weeks.
Maxwell Way at Port of Tacoma Road is now expected to close for up to two weeks, from October 26 to November 8, to accommodate paving the west and center lanes. A detour route will be marked around the construction.
Weekend work on this section of Port of Tacoma Road is planned for October 17, 24 and 25.
Stay Safe Through Construction Zone
Safety is our top priority. The contractor, City, Tacoma Rail and Port continue to work with emergency responders to make sure they have access through the construction zone.
Remember, the speed limit through the construction zone is 30 MPH. Obey all traffic laws, watch for traffic revisions and use extra caution when driving through the port industrial area.
