Port of Tacoma Road - June 24 - July 3, 2015

Port of Tacoma Road - June 24 - July 3, 2015

Slow Down on Port of Tacoma Road
The speed limit has been reduced to 30 mph through the work zone. Police officers will be issuing tickets to drivers who exceed the speed limit.

Contractor crews continue to complete driveway, curb and gutter work along Port of Tacoma Road between Marshall Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. Work is expected to be finished by July 3. Expect one-lane closures on the road in the outbound lane through July 3 and watch for flaggers directing traffic.

Full Road Closure Expected to Begin July 1

Beginning July 1, all lanes of Port of Tacoma Road are expected to be closed between Lincoln Avenue and the Washington United Terminals' gate.

Traffic will be detoured around the road closure on Lincoln Avenue, Thorne Road and Maxwell Way.

The full road closure is expected to last up to six weeks while U.S. Oil completes remediation work to remove contaminated material and the City paves the road with concrete.

No Truck Staging on Port of Tacoma Road

All Husky trucks (including bobtails, bare chassis, etc.) are reminded that no staging is allowed on Port of Tacoma Road.

All Husky and Olympic Container Terminal (OCT) trucks are required to use the Overflow and East 11th Street Staging Areas to access the terminals. Follow the suggested routes for OCT

Train Traffic on Detour Route

U.S. Oil expects to begin receiving full-unit trains Friday, June 26. The trains may cause delays along the Port of Tacoma Road detour route. Traffic on Lincoln Avenue, Thorne Road or Marshall Avenue may be blocked for up to 20 minutes.

Do not stop on the railroad tracks.

If you are blocked by a train for more than 30 minutes or need an estimate of when a train will clear, contact Tacoma Rail's operations desk at (253) 396-3161. The desk is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Pavement Removal to Begin July 6

Beginning the week of July 6, expect Port of Tacoma Road to be reduced to one lane in each direction between Marshall Avenue and Lincoln Avenue as the contractor begins removing the existing pavement.

Thank you for driving safely and being patient during this major construction project.
