Summer Jobs 253 Now Accepting Employer and Student Applications for 2015 Program

The City of Tacoma and its partners, the Reach Center, Tacoma Public Schools and WorkForce Central, are accepting applications for the 2015 Summer Jobs 253 program now.

The program, which was piloted in 2013 and officially launched in 2014, provides Tacoma Public School incoming juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn high school credit toward on time graduation and get work experience during the summer.

Summer Jobs 253 Accepting 2015 Applications and helped those students get on the job skill development. The students earned an accumulative 145.5 credits as part of the program.

This year, the partners are hoping to expand the number of student participants to 150 students and have more employers participate.

“For the students this is really a life changing event for them,” said Christopher Wright, contract and program auditor. “For many of them it is there first contact with work world and not only do they get paid and get high school credits toward graduation, but you can really see them grow in their confidence level as they become adults.”
