Responses to RFI for Transit Oriented Development Site
Adjacent to Tacoma Dome and Sounder Stations Due Aug. 25

Tacoma, Wash. -- The City of Tacoma released a Request for Interest today for a Transit Oriented Development site at 415 E. 25th St. adjacent to the Tacoma Dome and Sounder stations. The effort is a partnership between the City and Pierce Transit to redevelop the former staging site for Pierce Transit’s Tacoma Dome Station project.

“This is a premier Transit Oriented Development site in Tacoma and Pierce County,” said City of Tacoma Community and Economic Development Director Ricardo Noguera. “Day commuters to Seattle, Olympia and downtown Tacoma will be attracted by the convenience of this location.”

The site is central to the Tacoma multi-modal transit hub. Transit options within one block include the Tacoma Link light rail, Sounder Rail and ST Express bus to Seattle and the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Intercity Transit Olympia Express bus, Pierce Transit local bus, Greyhound long distance bus and Amtrak Cascades rail. More than 1.7 million trips are logged from these locations annually, including 4,500 daily riders on local and regional mass transit. A 2013 market study found the site “highly feasible” for development of multifamily housing.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the City of Tacoma, Pierce Transit and the right development partner to create an innovative, transit-oriented housing solution in the Dome District.  We’re excited about the possibilities,” said Lynne Griffith, Pierce Transit Chief Executive Officer.

Responses to the Request for Interest are due to the City of Tacoma on Aug. 25. For complete information, visit the RFI web page or call Patricia Beard at (243) 591-5039.
