Residential Infill Program Begins Accepting Applications

The City of Tacoma is now accepting applications for its Residential Infill Program, which was expanded by the passage of Ordinance 28695 on October 20, 2020 by the Tacoma City Council.

“This program will help Tacoma realize our Housing Growth Strategy in a way that is sustainable and builds diverse housing types,” said Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards. “We are excited to see this program continue and expand to increase housing options for all people in Tacoma.”

The program now includes a Planned Infill Housing category and increases the number of each housing type allowed through the program. The updated program also includes modified design requirements and more streamlined permit process.

“Encouraging housing diversity is an important step toward increasing available housing in Tacoma,” said Council Member Chris Beale. “The limitation of housing types limits vibrancy that small multifamily can bring to communities as we create space that allows people to age in place in the communities they love.”

People interested in small multifamily, two-family housing, cottage housing or planned infill housing can apply to the program by going to tacomapermits.org or to learn more about the program or view the updated handbook at cityoftacoma.org/infill.
