City of Tacoma Extends Warming Center Operations through December 31, 2020

The City of Tacoma is extending the operation of the Warming Center located at the Eastside Community Center (1721 E. 56th Street) through December 31, 2020. The decision is in response to the continued need to address inclement winter weather and the additional barriers to sheltering individuals experiencing homelessness created by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The City will evaluate operations after the first two weeks and continue to provide evaluation of services and impacts throughout the service period. We will reassess continued duration of operations by mid-December.

The Warming Center provides:

  • 24-hour shelter on a walk-in basis during inclement winter weather events.
  • Sleeping mats and meals to all visitors.

Visitors must wear masks, maintain physical distancing and follow all other required safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Donations of non-perishable pre-packaged snacks can be made at the center and for more volunteer opportunities contact Valeo at (253) 392-4014.
