City of Tacoma Establishes a Warming Center at Eastside Community Center for Inclement Winter Weather Events

The City of Tacoma has established a warming center at Metro Parks’ Eastside Community Center (1721 E 56th St), which will operate 24 hours a day during activation for any resident who needs a warm place during cold weather.

The warming center is expected to open tomorrow, October 24, 2020 at 7 a.m. and operate through 10 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2020. Activation of the center will be determined each Monday for the following week based on forecasted weather, including:

  • Temperatures below 32 degrees
  • Temperatures below 35 degrees with a wind chill
  • Snow
  • Severe rain
  • A combination of severe weather events

The center will be operated by Valeo and can accommodate up to 40 people at a time. Guests will receive a COVID-19 screening before entering the center.

People who visit the center will be required to follow Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department physical distancing requirements and wear masks while inside.

Meals will be provided and donations of non-perishable pre-packaged snacks can be made at the center.
