Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center Accepting Yard Waste from City of Tacoma Residents April 20 – May 3

In an effort to protect the health of customers and employees while providing essential services, the City of Tacoma’s Solid Waste Management is taking a phased approach to resuming services at the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center (3510 S. Mullen St.).

Effective Monday, April 20, through Sunday, May 3, from 8 AM to 5:30 PM, the facility will start the first preliminary phase, and open to self-haul yard waste from City of Tacoma solid waste residential customers only. Customers must have an active solid waste residential collection account serviced by the City and must maintain social distancing requirements at all times.

The period of reduced services has allowed Solid Waste Management to implement measures to help protect the health of both customers and employees at this facility. Solid Waste Management is continuing to plan for ways to provide additional services that are currently unavailable to self-haul customers and anticipates more changes after this first preliminary phase.

Customers that do not reside within the city of Tacoma can visit lriservices.com or call (253) 847-7555 for more information about transfer stations outside of Tacoma.

Currently, no residential self-haul garbage, recycling, or Call-2-Haul loads are being accepted during this period. If solid waste customers have items that cannot be placed in their collection containers, they can call (253) 502-2100 in advance to request service changes or additional pick-ups. Also, curbside Call-2-Haul services are still available, but there could be delays in collection service due to demand.

Essential commercial solid waste loads, as defined by Governor Inslee’s order, are still being accepted. These loads must be in excess of 1,000 lbs.  Payments should be made by credit card.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is closed Tuesdays through Thursdays and is open Fridays through Mondays from 8 AM to 5:30 PM For more information, including a full list of acceptable household hazardous waste items, visit cityoftacoma.org/hazwaste.

Residents will be notified of schedule changes on the Recycle Coach app, and information will be posted on cityoftacoma.org/solidwaste, or customers can call (253) 502-2100 for more information.
