Planning and Development Services Extends Public Comment During COVID-19 “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” Order

The City of Tacoma’s Planning and Development Services is amending the Director's Rule 01-2019 to suspend the requirement for a community meeting and instead creating a 30-day comment period in which written comments will be accepted. The notification radius will remain at 1,000 feet. The rule change will sunset when the Governor lifts the suspension related to public meetings.

The change is in response to the Governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” Order, which has prohibited public gatherings. The City has been cancelling, postponing or modifying participation in public meetings and events to help encourage residents to social distance and comply with Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department recommendations and the Governor’s order.

“We want to make sure that we continue to provide a robust notification and public engagement process while prioritizing our community’s health,” said Peter Huffman, Planning and Development Services Director. “We recognize the importance of continuing to listen and receive information about our services and processes from our residents and customers. We are committed to adapting our business during this challenging time.”

More information about the City’s permitting process is available at TacomaPermits.org.
