City of Tacoma Facilities Temporarily Closing to the Public

 

The City of Tacoma is working closely with local, state, and national health officials to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Beginning at 7:30 AM on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, City facilities including the administrative offices at the Tacoma Municipal Building complex (747 Market St. and 733 Market St.) will be closed to the public until further notice. See below for a list of resources available via phone, email and online.

 
Tacoma Municipal Court


As of July 27, 2020, Tacoma Municipal Court's front counter will be open to the public from noon to 4 PM. Phone hours are from 8:30 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday at (253) 591-5357. You can also reach out by fax at (253) 591-5301 or email at MunicipalCourt@cityoftacoma.org. Email will be checked daily from 8 AM TO 4:30 PM.

Tacoma Public Utilities

Tacoma Public Utilities (3628 S. 35th St.) will be closing their lobby to the public starting Wednesday, March 18, 2020, until further notice.

Essential Services, Including Emergency Services and Solid Waste Collection Services

 

Essential City services, including emergency services and Solid Waste collection services, will remain operational. 

Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center Service Changes Begins May 18
Starting Monday, May 18, the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center will be open seven days per week, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., to: 

  • City of Tacoma residential customers with garbage or yard waste loads only.
  • City of Tacoma commercial customers with garbage loads only. 
  • The Recycle Center is now open to residential customers seven days per week, from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Read the full announcement here.

  • The Household Hazardous Waste Facility will be open to residential customers on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays and will remain closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

  • The Goodwill drop off station at the Recycle Center will remain closed until further notice. 
  • The Solid Waste front office lobby and EnviroHouse will also remain closed until further notice.

TAGRO Facility


Starting Monday, April 27, the City's TAGRO facility located at the Central Treatment Plant (2301 Cleveland Way, Gate 6) will resume service to residential customers with modified services and hours. Hours of operation will be between 8 AM and 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Click here to learn more.


Parking Services

 

Parking Services is resuming services for the on-street parking system starting Monday, July 6. On this date, the on-street pay station system, as well as timed regulation monitoring, will resume throughout the city. On-street parking will once again require payment where meters are present, and all timed signage will begin to be monitored by the City’s Parking Services.  

 

On this same date, the City will introduce a touchless parking payment option through the Flowbird App.

 

Abandoned Vehicles


Due to the circumstances around COVID-19, the City’s Road Use Compliance Officers are focusing their efforts on life safety issues regarding parked vehicles. Officers will continue enforcement around inoperable vehicles and vehicles with expired registration that are in the City’s right-of-way. Requests submitted to the Customer Support Center for other violations regarding parked vehicles will be revisited when normal operating procedures return. Visit the City’s Abandoned Autos page to find out more.
