Some of the most frequently requested records are not created or maintained by the City of Tacoma. Please contact the following agencies for the items below or use the listed web directories. 
 

Birth and Death Certificates

Contact the Pierce County Health Department. Applications are available online. You may also view the Washington State Department of Health web site for information or search Washington State Digital Archives.

 

Court Records

Use the State of Washington Courts records request page to identify what type of records you are seeking or use the Washington State Court Directory to locate the appropriate court. Tacoma Municipal Court records may be obtained by contacting Morgan Medley at (253) 591-5357, extension 6176.

 

Criminal History or Background Check

Criminal history records may be obtained for non-criminal justice purposes, but it is limited to conviction information only. Contact the Washington State Patrol.
  

Divorce Decrees

Divorce decrees may be obtained from the County court in which the divorce was granted. If your divorce decree came from Pierce County Superior Court, you may purchase copies online from the LINX web site. Use the Washington State Court Directory to locate the appropriate court if it is not Pierce County. Discharge papers (DD214) can be obtained through the Pierce County Auditor's Office.
