Vanna Sing Earns 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Emerging Leader Community Service Award

The City Events and Recognitions Committee will honor Vanna Sing with the 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Emerging Leader Community Service Award during the upcoming Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration on Monday, January 21. The event will begin at 11 AM in the Greater Tacoma Convention Center (1500 Commerce St.).

The Emerging Leader Award is a new category that focuses on individuals who are 30 years of age or younger, and have demonstrated a commitment to becoming a leader for a lifetime, following the generations prior who have given back to and lifted up their communities.

“We have been excited and awestruck by the actions and activities of Vanna Sing, the founder of the Tacoma Healing Awareness Community, a chartered non-profit,” said nominator Perry Newell. “She envisions an equitable community with engaged individuals, working together to improve the health and well-being of all community members.”

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Awards recognize and encourage excellence in community service activities carried out by an individual, organization or group, and seeks to encourage similar efforts by others who may want to serve in the community. It is presented each year during the City’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration before a crowd of more than 1,000 attendees.
