Lauren Walker Appointed by City Council to At-Large Position No. 6

The City Council appointed Lauren Walker to At-Large Position No. 6 during the Tuesday, Jan. 24 City Council Meeting.

“We are choosing a candidate that was one of the most qualified,” said Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland. “Lauren Walker is steady, a good communicator and knows this community, all important skills to have while serving on City Council. She was part of my top three applicants but is clearly my number one choice.”

The City Council is responsible for enacting all legislation, developing policies and making general decisions for governing the City of Tacoma. City Council duties include adopting and amending City laws, approving the budget, establishing City policies and standards, approving contracts and agreements, and representing the City.

The City Council meets every Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Tacoma Municipal Building Council Chambers (747 Market St., first floor). In addition, study sessions are held every Tuesday at noon in Tacoma Municipal Building North (733 Market St., Room 16). Council committees meet in accordance with a set schedule from Mondays through Thursdays in various rooms throughout the Tacoma Municipal Building.

Effective Jan. 1, 2017, Council Members receive an annual salary of $46,013.92.
