**LEAP** - LOCAL EMPLOYMENT AND APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM:  Empowering a Well-Trained Work force

The Lemay Car Museum, Cheney Stadium Renovation, The Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center, Broadway LID, Sound Transit Link Light Rail, Center for Urban Waters, Click, Small Business Incubator campus, Tacoma Power Hydroelectric Projects, Tacoma Water Green River Headworks Projects, Point Ruston and a host of other public works and private development projects have helped transform Tacoma into a thriving metropolis.

The recession has placed a damper on the demand for skilled construction labor in Tacoma.  However, economists predict that construction jobs will be in demand in 2013 when the recruitment of skilled workers will once again run high.  Additionally, an aging labor force will prompt the need for apprentices and journey level workers in the near future to work on City of Tacoma construction projects.

The Local Employment and Apprenticeship Training Program (LEAP) provides City of Tacoma residents opportunities to access apprenticeship programs through its partnerships with local work force development providers.  See "Events & Resources" for a list of these providers.

For questions about LEAP or apprenticeship opportunities, please contact LEAP Coordinator Peter Guzman at (253) 594-7933 or pguzman@cityoftacoma.org
