Emergency Temporary Aid and Shelter Plan Updates

Update for the Week of October 9-13, 2017 

The City Council is expected to hear the final reading of Ordinance No. 28460 regarding the Emergency Temporary Shelters Interim Regulations on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. 

 

Update for the Week of October 2-6, 2017

A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in the City Council Chambers (747 Market Street, First Floor) during the Tacoma City Council meeting at approximately 5:15 PM on the proposed ordinance to extend and modify the Emergency Temporary Shelters Interim Regulations.

 

Update for the Week of September 25-29, 2017

City Staff will provide an update and recommendations regarding the Temporary Emergency Aid and Shelter Plan to the City Council on October 3, 2017 during study session at noon in room 16 of the Tacoma Municipal Building North (733 Market St.).

Phase 3 planning continues as the City considers all options for creating more permanent short-term transitional housing solutions.

The City continues to develop an approach to addressing the need for more permanent short-term transitional housing solutions.

City staff will provide a presentation on the Temporary Emergency Aid and Shelter Plan to City Council during their Study Session at noon on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. 

 

Update for the Week of August 7-11, 2017

The City is seeking an individual to act as an Artist in Residence beginning November 1, 2017 – December 31, 2018 who will work in an collaborative team to address issues related to homelessness in our community.

The City created an “Encampment Removal” web page to provide the date, location and whether items were stored for each encampment cleanup.

 

Update for the Week of July 24-28, 2017

The City is continuing to evaluate permanent short-term transitional housing options to address housing needs.

The City is continuing to evaluate all options for more permanent short-term transitional housing solutions.

 

Update for the Week of July 10-14, 2017

The Tacoma City Council passed a “Public Camping” Ordinance and a Human Habitation of Vehicles Ordinance on July 11, 2017 and both ordinances became immediately effective.

 

Update for the Week of July 3-7, 2017

Seventy-eight people have been provided shelter at the Stability Site at 1423 Puyallup Avenue since it opened on June 26, 2017.

 

Update for the Week of June 26-30, 2017

The Phase 2 Stability Site opened on Monday, June 26 at 1423 Puyallup Avenue. 


Update for the Week of June 19-23, 2017

Community Homeless Services Providers and the City’s Homeless Services team have been working with people at the mitigation site to prepare them for the transition and entry people in the Coordinated Entry system.

 

Update for the Week of June 12-16, 2017 

Site preparation began at the phase 2 Stability Site located at 1423 Puyallup Avenue.

 

Update for the Week of June 5-9, 2017 

The Tacoma City Council approved a motion on June 6, 2017 that accepted staff's recommendation to implement two non-consecutive mitigation sites and one stability site through December 31, 2017.

 

Update for the Week of May 29-June 2, 2017

Tacoma City Council will hear a presentation about the Emergency Temporary Aid and Shelter Plan at study session on Tuesday, June 6 at noon.

 

Update for the Week of May 22-26, 2017

People experiencing homelessness at Portland Avenue and 18th Street have had access to basic human amenities since the first Rapid Resource Pop-up was established on May 18.
