Did You Know?
The City of Tacoma is exploring the feasibility of implementing a bike share system. The project consultants at Toole Design Group are preparing a Bike Share Feasibility Study that will detail potential bike share programs for Tacoma.
What is Bike Share?
Bike share provides a network of bicycles available at self-service stations around the city. Customers are able to access the bicycles by purchasing a daily, weekly, monthly or annual membership using their credit card or phone. Most systems allow customers to make as many trips as they like without additional charges, provided they return the bicycles to another station within 30 minutes. Bike share is ideal for short distance trips and in many instances can provide a last-mile connection between transit and your final destination.
Bike Share Presentations
A Bike Share open house was held on February 25, 2016 at the Tacoma Campus of The Evergreen State College. Attendees learned about the types of systems that may work for Tacoma, and gave their thoughts on potential system goals, station locations, and technology types.
The City of Tacoma’s Infrastructure, Planning and Sustainability Committee received a presentation on the Tacoma Bike Share Feasibility Study on November 9, 2016. The presentation was an overview of the draft report and provided an opportunity for the Committee to ask questions or comment prior to the preparation of the final report.
