The City of Tacoma's Human Rights Commission is seeking nominations for one award that will be presented by Mayor Strickland at the last City Council meeting of March, June, September, and December.
Criteria for the Champion Award
An individual or organization that has provided or provides services in the City of Tacoma that advances human rights. Services that advance human rights include, but are not limited to, activities that promote the following:
- The elimination of discrimination based on race, religion, color, national origin, or ancestry, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, familial status, disability, or military status
- Access to justice, food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, education, or transportation
- Reduction in violence, including domestic violence, and other crimes
- Increased job opportunities through training or job creation
- Reduction in adverse environmental impacts on our community
- Safety and well being
- Human dignity
