Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find a list of commonly asked questions regarding the current Community Services/Mental Health Substance Use Disorder/Community Mobilization application process.

What priority do I apply under?

Unfortunately, we cannot advise you regarding what Funding Priority your program should apply under.  Read through the Funding Priorities, Service Categories, and Goals to determine which application to complete. Programs that meet more than one priority should select the best fit (based on services delivered) and apply under that area. Can we apply for more than one funding source?Yes, programs may apply for more than one source of funding (i.e. Community Services, MH/SUD, or Community Mobilization, CDBG and ESG) Programs must submit a separate application for each funding source. Programs applying for Community Services and CDBG funding may only apply under one funding priority (e.g. a program cannot apply under Prepare Children and Youth for Success and Meets Basic Needs of Tacoma Residents or in the case of CDBG a program cannot apply for both Housing Stabilization Services and Economic Stabilization Services). Who decides which programs get funded? The Human Services Commission is a citizen panel that reads and scores each application in most funding processes. Programs applying under ESG are reviewed by a citizen review panel.   The Human Services Commission also makes funding recommendations to City Council for approval. How do I answer questions that do not relate to my selected service category? If the question does not relate to your selected service category or selected goal, answer “N/A.”  All fields require a text response.

Are the budget forms based on one year or two years?
All of the program budget forms are based on two years to match the length of the contract period.  The only budget form that is not based on two years is the agency revenue form.  This form should reflect the total agency budget for the organization’s current fiscal year.  The organization’s fiscal period is agency-specific. It is not determined by the City.

I have completed my first draft of the Grant Application; can I get feedback on what has been completed so far?

If there is an area where you need assistance clarifying a question, we are happy to do that.  However, we do not review applications for completion.  It is up to the agency to ensure they have completed all of the correct areas.
