Annual Sister Cities International Film Festival
to Run Feb. 6 – April 3 at the University of Puget Sound

The 12th Annual Sister Cities International Film Festival will be held this year, Feb. 6 – April 3, at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. Films will play on each of the scheduled dates in the Tahoma Room at Commencement Hall on the corner of North 13th and Lawrence streets, with the exception of Feb. 27, when the film will be held at the Kilworth Chapel. All films will run free of charge.

This year’s run will showcase films from Kitakyushu, Japan; Kiryat-Motzkin, Israel; Biot, France; Fuzhou, China; Gunsan, South Korea; Taichung, Taiwan; Alesund, Norway; El Jadida, Morocco and Cienfuegos, Cuba.

"This annual film festival is one of the many ways Tacoma honors its global partners," said Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland. "We thank the University of Puget Sound for hosting this important educational and cultural event that celebrates our Sister Cities."

After its inaugural year, in 2004, Sister Cities International gave Tacoma’s film festival the Sister Cities International Culture and Innovation Award. Since then, over 1,200 people have attended the festival each year.

Tacoma currently has 12 Sister Cities, the newest of which is Biot, France. The Tacoma Sister Cities program seeks to promote cultural and political diversity, and encourage international exchanges between business, governments, health, arts, cultural and educational groups, and organizations.
