Discover Local Bicycling Resources During 10th Annual Bike Month

May 2017 brings the 10th annual Bike Month to Tacoma and Pierce County. A dynamic month of activities and events are planned for participants of all levels of interests and abilities and is designed to raise awareness of local bicycling resources.

Kicking off Bike Month is the ninth annual Bike Swap at University of Puget Sound (North Union Avenue and North 14th Street) on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is the place to buy, sell and trade new and used bicycles, along with accessories like helmets, trailers and riding gear. Local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and bicycling experts will be on hand to answer questions about bike maintenance, where to ride, and how to connect with other riders.

Bike Month Events Include:

  • Bike Month Proclamation: Tuesday, May 2, at 5 p.m., at the Tacoma Municipal Building in Council Chambers (747 Market St., first floor)
  • Bike to Market Day: Thursday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Broadway Farmers Market (Broadway St. Between S. 9th and S. 11th)
  • Bike to Work Day: Friday, May 19, stop by Manifesto Coffee (1003 S. 11th St.) from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. and join us after work at Harmon Tap Room (204 St Helens Ave) from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Cycles on the Foss: Environmental History Bike Tour: Friday, May 26, from 5:15 - 7 p.m., at Foss Waterway Seaport Museum (705 Dock St.)

In addition, participate in the Bike Everywhere Challenge and be entered to win a number of exciting prizes. This May, ride a bike for a trip to the park, library, grocery store or other destination and log these trips for a chance to win. Visit PierceTrips.com to learn more.
