Below is the City of Tacoma's past performance management efforts.
The purpose of Performance Management is to improve performance and decision-making, indicate the City is being managed, provide a mechanism for accountability and allow citizens to know what we do.
The City of Tacoma is a member of the International City/County Management Association's Center for Performance Measurement. In 2012, the City received a Certificate of Distinction from the Center for Performance Measurement for using performance measurement to drive organizational improvement.
The six components of the City of Tacoma's Performance Management System are:
**Performance Reporting for Citizens: These easy-to-read documents help citizens see how the City is performing. The 2011 Report to Citizens is available.
Strategic Direction: City priorities established by the City Council.
City Manager Goals: City Manager Goals are aligned with the City Council's Strategic Direction.
Service Level Agreements: The service level standards provided by departments.
Performance Measures: Data that indicates the progress toward the City's goals.
